Why to volunteer

“What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal”

- Albert Pike

Why to volunteer:

Through its activities and recruitment and inclusion of young people for its projects, CED seeks to promote volunteerism in its home region and among its target group.

Numerous reasons stand out for volunteering. Volunteering grants one the chance to work together with great people, to support a variety of organizations, and gain new skills and experiences – both for life and for specific fields. Once one becomes involved in volunteerism, it typically becomes a key part of their lifestyle. Volunteerism, through its entire spectrum of experiences, good, bad, and everything in between, opens one’s mind to the world and what it has to offer. Our youth need this outlook and opening of opportunities as their futures weave together to create our society’s future. Volunteerism, through opening the door to skill development, to community engagement, and last but not least, for opportunities to have fun, paves the way for a better world, a better North Macedonia, and a better Tearce.

Volunteering need not limit itself to a single community either. Through opportunities to volunteer abroad, one gains insight into structures of organizations in other countries, and gains insight into the social contracts of other cultures. By taking part in celebrations, holidays, projects, work, and daily life – one gains new perspectives, confronts prejudices as they meet new people, and returns home with a new lens directed at their own culture and society, expanding the worldview in their own community and empowering other people with the ability to see new opportunities.

Volunteering has a lot of benefits such as:

  • Learning and developing skills
  • Transferring your skills to others
  • Enhancing your resumé
  • Gaining work experience
  • Building self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Building life-lasting friendships

Which activities you can implement while volunteering:

  • Develop CED's institutional capabilities
  • Sport, ecological and cultural activities
  • Work with children (workshops on various topics)
  • Gain photography and video editing skills
  • Organize exhibitions
  • Begin building clubs and a platform for local youth
